Gavin Bottrell, MBA Aston Business School Founder & Managing Director of the MBA Golf Club explains its origins
“When I started my MBA course in January 2000 at Aston Business School I was immediately struck by the high calibre of my fellow students. With hindsight, I didn’t make the most of the networking opportunity presented to me. Since then I’ve realised that having good contacts and building relationships with like-minded people really does open up lots of great opportunites! For several years now I’ve organised small golf events for friends and colleagues with MBA’s- we make new friends, swap business ideas and have a great time. The success of these events inspired me to set up the MBA Golf Club. Throughout 2006 we’ll be holding a series of events that will bring together a large number of MBA golfers from all over the world”.
Mark Holmes, MBA Liverpool University Secretary & Operations Director of the MBA Golf Club
“I met Gavin through a friend at one of the golf events he’d organised for MBA’s at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. I’m not what you’d call a serious golfer at all, so I went along really just for the social side of it. The outcome was that I made some great new friends and contacts, which has paid dividends in many ways since. The following week I was able to put a friend in touch with an executive recruiter which led to a lucrative job offer.”
